One of the things that sets FVCHS apart is our intersession program. Spring Intersession consists of either a work study program or an adventure experience like our backpacking trip through Uwharrie National Forest last March; but Fall Intersession is the same for all students. After a week of inculturation into the Capodanno way, they head to the Smoky Mountains for a week of hiking, rafting, team building, and reflection.
Learning how to weather adversity is the key to building strong teams. So, when we want to get the students to build team chemistry with each other we extract them from their comfort zone and place them in adverse conditions to challenge them to succeed. For Fall Intersession that means a week in the beautiful Smoky Mountains. We climbed waterfalls, hiked mountains, and conquered whitewater. Not only are these activities fun but the challenge of them paired with the community around the students serves to bring the student body together better than anything else. The FVCHS Intersession Program has been revolutionary since it began last Fall and this year was no exception!
